~~BIRTHDAY PICS~~

Josiah's birthday pictures...
We had just a small family "party". We will be getting together with family on Easter and celebrating all the March and April birthdays.

Siah and I with his birthday dinner, we wanted pizza just like his big brother Noah.
A rare moment caught on camera.
He's a happy boy!!
He got a pool from all of us which he really wanted. Pay no attention to the Christmas wrap, we just use what we have around the house. Most birthday gifts are wrapped w/Christmas paper. :)
Some of us on the couch all together.
This was awesome, Kaianah discovered box jumping and it kept her entertained for probably 20 minutes or more. The boys are in the background putting together Josiah's new Lego Atlantis set from his brothers.
Did someone say cake??

~~HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY JOSIAH~~

Today is Josiah's 6th birthday! It's only 8am right now but I couldn't wait to post these pictures.
Dusty wrote that on Josiah this morning, what makes it even funnier is that Dusty has the same picture from his 6th birthday. So cute!!
He really wanted to pick his birthday breakfast, so I agreed. He picked PB & J (homemade jam only!) and a banana. Usually we do not have PB&J for breakfast but it's his birthday so I'll agree to that...plus I got off easy this morning. hee,hee
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIAH BEAR!!

~~Mama's Little Helper~~

Alanah is always asking me if she can help me cook, she loves being in the kitchen with me.
She is browning the meat.
We need some of this??
"I'm big mom, I can do it by myself."
She can't figure out how to get this can open. I told her she needed to use the can opener and she said she didn't know how. Alanah, do you need me again?
]
As soon as the cans were open she was back to "I can do it! I can do it!"
Okay, mom I need you again...now what?
Alanah I love you, but back away from the olives and no one gets hurt! (Olives are my fav and I never learned to share. :)

~~NOAH'S BIRTHDAY~~

Noah turned the big 7 this week!
I told him I would make any dinner he wanted, he said he wanted Costco pizza. Should I be offended?
Some gifts came in the mail, that's always a huge blessing. THANK YOU everyone!!
He really liked getting money this year, can you see the smile on his face?
(Thank you Gran, Aunt Diana, Great Grandma Christensen & Uncle Jed/Aunt Ruth)
Grandpa & Grandma Fitzpatrick sent two huge boxes of Legos for Noah & Josiah's birthday. They haven't stopped building all week. (It's like a babysitter in a box!!) Lovin' it!!
Noah got a new bike from Dad, Mom, Austin, Josiah, Alanah & Kaianah
He outgrew his old bike this year and was having a hard time keeping up with everyone on the bike rides.
He picked chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for his birthday cake. (Big shocker, ya right)
Kaianah got a few fingers into the cake, the proof is in the picture! :)

~~Playing With Food~~

I got a little artsy with the kids lunch a few days ago...the kids LOVED it and I had fun doing it.
All the plates are a little different depending on what everyone likes.

I ended up putting a large platter of food in the middle of the table so the kids could eat and eat!

Kaianah is missing because she was sitting in her high chair just to the right of the other kids.

~~IT'S A GIRL! IT'S A GIRL!!~~

She was born on Thursday 7:30pm. Dusty and the kids got to watch the whole process! I, however, missed it. :(  I'm glad Dusty got some pictures.
Mama and baby.
We are still trying to decide on a name. As she won't be food for many years we can give her a name that isn't food minded. The mama cow and heifer that we bought together came with names from the previous owner...The mama is Betsy Bovine and the other one is Bella. We thought it would be fun to come up with another "B" name. :)  Tri-tip is still adjusting to having a baby around but over all everyone is doing great.

~~THE DAVIS BEEKEEPERS~~2010

Once upon a time YouTube and I sat down together and YouTube taught me how to harvest honey.
All good stories start with once upon a time and YouTube right?!

Here is the "super" (beekeeper lingo) and some extra frames from another hive on top. We had one full hive and I partially full hive.
This one shown above is the partially filled one...
Honey extracting can be done different ways. The most common is with a large, fancy, expensive honey extractor which we don't have. Soooo, we did the al cheapo method called "crush and strain". The title pretty much explains it.
I was able to pull supplies from around the house and create my own way to strain and bottle the honey. Costing me $0 dollars to extract the honey. Minus the spatula that I broke during the process. :)  So, here's a picture of my new Steam Juicer that I got for Christmas this last year.
The cone on top is a hand-me-down from a friend from a few years back, the filters came with the cone so that seemed to work well to strain the honey. I put the Juicer in the oven on the lowest setting to allow the honey to melt a bit so it could be strained. Most people just stick the honey and the strainer in the sun but it's still a little to cold here for that...so the oven worked nicely.

Then I bottled it up. I still have MUCH more to do. It's a pretty sticky, time consuming project so I'm just doing a little at a time when I can. We are pretty excited to have our own honey. Thus another step in our journey to being less reliant and more sustainable. Oh and this honey tastes AMAZING! It's like no other...I have to keep reminding myself to keep my fingers out of the honey pot!

When Bad Things Happen to Christians

Yesterday marked the 1 year anniversary of a close friend/family that lost their baby. The baby went full term and then passed away. I found a song that really spoke to me. It was called HELD by Natalie Grant. I've added the song to my playlist and it's the song you are currently listening to.

This is what it means to be held.
How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life
and you survive.
This is what it is to be loved,
and to know that the promise was
when everything fell we’d be held.

- from Natalie Grant’s album ‘Awaken’, song title ‘Held’  (Full lyrics are at the end)

When I first listened to this song I struggled to grasp the meaning of the words. On one hand it seemed meant to be encouraging but on the other hand it was not at all so. I had to go pull the lyrics to try to understand what the writer was saying.
Unlike most songs in which the writer usually tells us to hold on and we’ll soon see God’s hand of deliverance – this song reminds us that we aren’t promised any specific promise of deliverance on the earth.
You can be angry with the circumstances you face. You can rail in anguish at the seeming indifference of a Father in heaven. You can weep and cry and bargain for your pain to be removed. Your pain is real and your desire for healing and deliverance is understandable.
The bible says that God sends sunshine and rain on the just and the unjust. Good things will happen to bad people and bad things will happen to good people. The world we live in is evil and there is a spiritual battle that most of us cannot begin to understand.

From our point of view – God abandons us and allows us to experience terrible loss when He could and should intervene on our behalf.

But from His point of view – what does He see? We can’t fathom it.

What do we know about God? He is good. He is holy. He is all powerful. He created us and He loved us so much that He would not allow us to die in our sin. He sent His only Son to live among us and die in our place. He accepted the shed blood of Jesus Christ as the price of redemption once and for all and He allows every single man and woman on the earth to lay claim to that redemption just by confessing the name of Jesus.
He redeemed us from an eternity in hell and promised us eternity with him.

But He did not promise us heaven on earth – He promised a new heaven and earth. On this earth He promised us that evil men would hate us and seek to kill us. He promised that persecution would be rampant and the earth would crumble around us. He promised us a Comforter and He promised us that He would be coming for us – and that He will avenge us.

And we accuse Him of unfaithfulness when pain and death come near our homes.

When the worst happens, when our hearts are broken and cold with grief, when we feel farthest from Him we are called to remember that He hasn’t promised a life without heartache – but He has promised to be there.
Knowing this is a comfort to those who believe that there is more to life than life on earth. This is only bearable because we have placed our faith in God’s promise of eternity. Someday He will wipe away our tears of pain and we will at last know what it is like to live without fear of loss. We will experience pure joy and awesome security without the presence of evil and death.

Until then, his arms are enough.
“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” -Deuteronomy 33:27 (NIV)

FULL LYRICS
Two months is too little

They let him go
They had no sudden healing
To think that providence
Would take a child from his mother
While she prays, is appalling
Who told us we'd be rescued
What has changed and
Why should we be saved from nightmares
We're asking why this happens to us
Who have died to live, it's unfair

[Chorus]
This is what it means to be held
How it feels, when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive
This is what it is to be loved and to know
That the promise was when everything fell
We'd be held

This hand is bitterness
We want to taste it and
Let the hatred numb our sorrows
The wise hand opens slowly
To lilies of the valley and tomorrow
[Chorus]
This is what it means to be held
How it feels, when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive
This is what it is to be loved and to know
That the promise was when everything fell
We'd be held

[Bridge]
If hope is born of suffering
If this is only the beginning
Can we not wait, for one hour
Watching for our savior

[Chorus]
This is what it means to be held
How it feels, when the sacred is torn from your life
And you survive
This is what it is to be loved and to know
That the promise was when everything fell
We'd be held
We'd be held
This is what it is to be loved and to know
That the promise was when everything fell

We'd be held
This is what it means to be held.....

~GOBBLE, GOBBLE, GOBBLE~~

Gobble, gobble, gobble! Yes, it's that turkey time of year! When the gobblers known as turkeys wish they all could disappear.
We brought home 6 turkeys this year. Just as last year, we will raise two of them for the holidays. We are hopeful that we will get at least one Tom and Tom-ette. :) Thus eliminating the need for the local hatchery.
Austin was the only one that wanted to hold them. I think the other kids thought they were to big and it scared them a little.

They were all willing to pet them, just not hold them.

Here's a close up of a bronze turkey. We bought 4 bronze and 2 white. We wanted Heritage breed but couldn't find anyone locally that was selling them :(
