So, as you know we were trying to hatch our own chicks in an incubator. Well, it didn't work! After much research to figure out what happened I discovered that I may have had the humidity wrong. As every project that has failed in the past we are trying again. We'll know next week if the next batch of chicks will hatch.
In the meantime, I placed a small order with the local hatchery. I ordered 5 chicks and 2 turkeys. (Turkeys are named November & December for the months we plan on eating them)
When we picked up the chicks yesterday the hatchery threw in 15 EXTRA chicks for FREE!!! They were trying to keep the 5 that we ordered warm so they just gave us the extras.

The plan for this year: To have the chickens produce enough eggs for our family, plus enough eggs to sell to pay for the feed and the new addition for this year is to raise enough chickens to supply our family with enough chicken meat for the year! We would LOVE to stop buying chicken from the grocery store. It would be wonderful to be eating our own meat verses commercially raise chicken. (Plus we would have hormone free, antibiotic free yummy chicken.)

Josiah was a little rough, so we didn't let him hold the chicks very long.

Austin's is very loving and a great caretaker.

Noah really had fun holding the little babies.

Alanah's face looks a little mean here but she was wonderful with the chicks. She was rocking them, petting them and cried BIG TIME when it was time to put them down.
