THE DAVIS FARM~Baby Chick Season 2010

20 New baby chicks arrived this week. The kids just love the baby chicks, they are always wanting to hold them.
Kaianah isn't ready to fly solo yet, she still needs some big brother help holding the little chicks.
Siah LOVES holding "the babies"

Uh, don't squeeze the neck! (She might need a little more help.)

Austin's doing a head count...

I love this picture, so cute.

~~THE COB COTTAGE CO.~~

Dusty and I along with the boys attended a weekend workshop in Coquille, Oregon this last weekend. The workshop was called Pyromania. It was all about building a rocket mass heater for our cob out building. Here are some pictures from our visit.
The Cob Cottage Company sits on a 350 acre preserve. We park at the bottom and hike in with all our stuff for the weekend. Here's a picture taken along the main trail. Austin, Noah & Josiah.
The baking of bread or pizza is done in a cob oven. Here's a picture of one.

That 55 gallon drum is a rocket mass heater. It sits in one of the "under construction" houses.

Austin found a tree house that was built a while back by a previous apprentice. He talked me into climbing up. Here's a picture from the top looking down. As you can tell, I made it down and lived to tell about it! :)

An outdoor kitchen where all the food preparation was done. The food was AMAZING! Mostly all vegan.

Handmade gate with lots of cool character.

Lots of cob houses on the property. This one is call The Bedrock.

The Meadow Suite~~this was where we stayed. It's still under construction.

Such beauty...

Noah was frog hunting, he never caught any frogs on this trip. Maybe next time buddy. He was however really good at Banana Slug hunting. :)

Austin and Siah

Siah did some wood chopping...

"Well kids, this is a composting toilet." Says Dad.

This flag means the potty is being used. Wait your turn Siah!

Siah is helping Ann build a "Rumford". We will probably be building one of these very soon.

Lots of cool cob art on the walls...

Court yard wall...

Check out that living roof!

Outside sink for washing up. This sink is just outside of the outdoor solar shower.

More cool Cob Art...they got some very talented people that pass through The Cob Cottage Company.

The Cob houses have so much character and style.

This is Linda Smiley's House. She is co-author of the book called The Hand Sculpted House. Her house is two story. The outside doesn't do it any justice to the hand carved spiral staircase, the granite kitchen counter tops, the off-grid frig, and the full bathroom. Her house is a true work of art right down to the mosaic master piece in the bathroom. The total to build this house was $5,000 WOW, talk about cost effective!

Inside the Myrtle, a common area for all the visitors.

~~FAR ABOVE RUBIES~~

Here's a poem I happened across yesterday. I really enjoyed it and thought I would share.

FAR ABOVE RUBIES
What does the Word say a wife ought to be?
There are guidelines aplenty for someone like me.
A wife should be strong and make use of her mind,
Generous to others, and gentle and kind.
Early to rise, at the dawn of the day,
Feeding her family, hearing them pray.
Cooking and cleaning, not out of duty
But seeing her home as a dwelling of beauty.
Provided by God, as a gift she can treasure
Where work is a privilege, even a pleasure.
Using her talents to knit and to sew,
Supplying her family's needs as they grow.
A wife should be thrifty, hard-working and wise,
Displaying good sense in the goods that she buys.
In a marriage, the wife plays a diligent part
Where her husband is head and she is the heart.
A wife such as this is a gem beyond price,
Her husband has confidence in her advice.
And the woman who honours the Lord in her life
Will be praised by her husband, who'll honour his wife.

~~Valentine's Day Party~~

We had our own little Valentine's Day party here at The Davis Academy.
I made a cake with a group of ladies from church a few days prior, the kids couldn't wait to get a slice of it!
Noah is being silly, and pretending he's going to eat the whole cake by himself.

We had lunch, then cake, then opened a package from Grandpa & Grandma Fitzpatrick

Grandma & Grandpa Fitzpatrick sent each kid an envelope...
"Go ahead kids, you can open 'em now!"

Inside the envelope was a Valentine's card, candy & $1
I caught a little of Kaianah's excitement in opening her Valentines

Noah was surprised that even Kaianah got candy & money.

They LOVED eating chocolate cake in the middle of the day, pretty special treat around here.

After all the sugar the kids went outside to run around for a while. Get out a little of that energy from all the candy & cake.
